Robert MELBY Obituary
90, passed away January 12, 2019. Bob was a man of honor who faithfully served his Lord, his family and his country. Born in Thief River Falls, MN, Bob moved to St. Petersburg in 1956 to establish his optometric practice after serving for four years in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant. Bob loved his career and his patients, continuing to practice until he was 86 when his mobility was affected by Parkinson's disease. Bob was active in the local community and served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1978-1982. He was a longtime member of the Exchange Club, Lakewood Country Club, Lakewood Methodist, and Pass a Grille Community Church. His hobbies included boating, fishing, vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina, singing in the church choir, and socializing with his many, many friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Charlotte; four children, Rob Melby (Jane), Craig Melby (Nikki), Linda Melby Nease, and Carolyn Holman (Scott); 10 grandchildren; and his sister, Carol Fingerson. A celebration of Bob's life will be held January 19, 3 pm, at Pass a Grille Community Church, St. Pete Beach. See www.brettfuneralhome.net for details and a guestbook.
