WEST, Edward Hamilton IV 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 in Tampa. Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at 12 noon at St. John's Episcopal Church, 906 S Orleans Ave., Tampa, FL 33606. There will be an interment of ashes at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL at a later date. Ed was born Aug. 2, 1936 in Gainesville, FL to Rt. Reverend Hamilton West and Charlotte West. He grew up in Augusta, GA and Jacksonville, FL where he met the sweetheart of his life, Connie Rhodes. Ed graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville and then attended The University of the South (Sewanee, TN). During his time at Sewanee he was very involved on campus. He was Eminent Archon of SAE, Red Ribbon Society, ONI Honorary Fraternity, Highlander Club, and Head Procter. At his graduation he received the Algernon-Sydney-Sullivan Award. In 2009, Ed was inducted into Sewanee's Hall of Fame for the winning swimming season of 1957-58. He also attended LSU School of Banking in 1968. Ed spent two years in the U.S. Navy, and began his banking career at Barnett Bank in Jacksonville. He later became President of Barnett Bank of Tampa in 1976. In 1977 he became Executive Vice President of Exchange Bank Corp. Inc. After several bank mergers, he ended his career at Bank of America. Ed did extensive community work in Jacksonville and Tampa. He was a member of the Exchange Club and Tampa Yacht and Country Club and past member of the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club and the University Club. Ed is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie; his 2 children, Conway Tozian (Mark) and Edward (Stacey); his seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
