Peter OROBELLO Obituary

OROBELLO, Peter W.

of Tierra Verde, passed away August 1, 2015 after suffering a heart attack during his weekly (25-mile) Saturday morning run. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to St. Petersburg in 1989, to spearhead the Pediatric Otolaryngology Department at All Children's Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Orobello dedicated his life to his family and his patients and was respected by everyone who knew him. He will be loved and remembered forever by his wife of 31 years, Jill Orobello; his children, Katy Orobello, Ryan Orobello Karempelis (Peter), Nicklas Orobello, Tayler Orobello, and Morgan Orobello; and his beloved grandson Peter Liam Karempelis. He was predeceased by his son, Peter John Orobello, and his parents, Peter and Mary Orobello. Peter and Jill married in 1984, while he was completing his residency at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. They then moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he completed his fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Their first son, Peter John, was born in March of 1986 and was diagnosed at 12 weeks with an x-linked auto immune disorder and Type 1 diabetes. Young Peter passed away in November of 2000 at age 14. Dr. Orobello was incredibly proud of his wife and children. With a raised eyebrow and a huge smile, he enjoyed talking about their accomplishments. Katy is a bar certified attorney in Florida and New York and is currently working on an additional degree in London. Ryan and her husband, Peter Karempelis, live in Minneapolis where Peter is doing his residency in ENT. They just had a son, Peter Liam, born earlier this summer. Nicklas is a third-year medical student at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Tayler is completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. Morgan is at the University of Georgia where she is pre-med and a goalie on the women's soccer team. Dr. Orobello, was a Pediatric Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon) with Pediatric Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialists in St. Petersburg. He was in private practice in the area for more than 25 years. Over the years, he has helped thousands of kids. Dr. Orobello served as the Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology, All Children's Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine. He was also a Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology and Pediatrics at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. One of Dr. Orobello's specialty areas included cochlear implantation. Over the years, he gave the gift of hearing to hundreds of patients. As one parent shared, "My son heard his first bird chirping because of Dr. Orobello. I will never forget that day." His kindness and generosity went beyond the confines of the practice. He served on the Board of Directors of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation as well as K-Life Ministries. Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7 at First United Methodist Church, 212 3rd Street North in St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Peter W. Orobello, M.D. Scholarship Fund (benefitting the University of Florida College of Medicine), P.O. Box 76479, St. Petersburg, FL 33734. Online memorial and guestbook at www.brettfuneralhome.net

Dr. Orobello is remembered, he was amazing with my son David. We moved out of St Petersburg in 1997. I moved back to Florida for a short time, and was shocked to hear about his passing! It was strange, I live in Dallas now, and was driving yesterday, and the memories of DrOrobello came back, I was even more surprised to see this come up today
God bless Jill and the family

Dr. O. And family. What a terrible sadness in the sudden loss of a great Dr. He did ear tubes on 2of my girls and a repair on one of my daughter's noses. This was the most sweetest dr's, very compassionate about all his patients, I always felt comfortable and in goods hands.I was at dinner last nite an my daughter an another little girl were at the same table talking about ear surgery and I mentioned Dr.o and the girls mother took me aside to inform me of this awful loss while he was on his morning jog.my heart goes out to the family, staff, and all who are effected.my god brings peace to the family. Until we see you again. Kiss all those who have gone before us and are in paradise

What a terrible loss for the family & the community of Tampa Bay. My son Robert Helenihi is a bone marrow transplant survivor and spent many visits at All Children's Hospital. We may have very well run into Dr. Orobello during some of these "hospital years". Please find peace in the fact that this accomplished man helped so many people in his too short time on Earth & that he passed away not in a hospital, but in the beautiful Florida outdoors doing what he loved & what gave him peace.
