CHARRETTE, Joan (Dubiel)

68, of Largo, and formerly of Somerset and Fall River, MA, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, after a five-year long battle with breast, bone, colon, and brain cancer. The disease may have taken her body, but it never touched her spirit. She was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Emily (Nowak) Dubiel of Fall River, MA.

Joan graduated B.M.C. Durfee High School, Fall River, MA, Class of 1966. She was a career public servant, retiring from the Department of Revenue,Child Support Enforcement,Massachusetts in 2009, after 42 years of service.

She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Jim of Largo; stepdaughter, Andrea Couto; three step grandchildren, James, Austin, and Tara all of Massachusetts; her brother, Phillip Dubiel and wife, Elizabeth; niece, Daune Schoel and husband, Douglas; nephews, Daniel Dubiel and wife, Heather, David Dubiel and wife, Shannon all of Florida, and Aaron Charrette of Massachusetts; and her brother-in-law, Philip Charrette of Florida. She is further survived by five great nephews, cousins, and many friends. Joan will be remembered for her loving kindness, loyalty, and unparalleled determination.

Joan enjoyed motorcycling with her husband as they traveled cross country upon their retirement. She also enjoyed many outdoor activities; as an avid and effective fisherman, a target shooter of some skill, and a dreadful, but enthusiastic golfer.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Suncoast Hospice for their invaluable assistance and Dr. David Ruth of Church by the Sea for his spiritual guidance and emotional support. We have the sincerest appreciation of the staff of Moffitt Cancer Center, especially for Dr. Hatem Soliman, a fine physician and noble gentleman.
