Edward M. Plotkin, 92

WORCESTER - Edward M. Plotkin, 92, passed away on December 15, 2018 in Ithaca, NY, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Worcester in 1926, Ed was the son of Lillian and Max Plotkin, and brother to Charlotte and Sonia. He attended Classical High School where he was class musician. Ed enlisted in the Navy after graduation, serving in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he attended UMass Amherst and was editor of the university newspaper. Upon graduation, he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. He joined Deluxe Parlor Furniture, the family business, in 1952, and became President in 1954. He later worked as a consultant for S&D Spinning in Millbury.

Ed was an avid volunteer and remained active well into his 80's. He was a board member of the Bond Astronomical Society of Harvard; President of the Forbush Bird Club; and became a Charter Member of Worcester Institute for Senior Studies (WISE). He was honored three times as volunteer of the year for his work with the Worcester Ecotarium.

Ed pursued his love for learning through post-graduate courses at Clark University in geology, astronomy, and history, and he conducted research at the Worcester Antiquarian Society. He was an accomplished musician, pilot and writer. He could fix anything. He was an avid naturalist, photographer, sailor, and tennis player.

Ed was beloved by Cecile, his true love and wife of 67 years, and by his children, Scott, Jonathan and Martha, and their spouses, Barbara, Darren and Amy, and by his grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, Emma, Ben and Lily. He will be remembered by his many dear friends and by the untold number of people he encountered in his volunteer work, on his travels, and by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with this infinitely curious, gentle, and deeply caring human being.

The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, December 19, at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Burial will be in B'Nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richard Perlman of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773.

Memorial Observance will be announced at the time of the funeral service.
