William P. Alves, 87

Sutton - William P. Alves, 87, passed away peacefully Monday, April 10th at Kindred Rehabilitation and Transitional Care in Westborough surrounded by his loving family after a long and full life. Bill was a proud and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was best known for his quick wit, charm, kindness and amazing sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bill leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Mary M. (Mills) Alves, two beloved daughters, Lisa M. Mason and Dawn E. Uppstrom and her husband, James all of Sutton as well as his beloved son, Steven P. Alves and his wife, Jennifer of Holden. He was also a devoted grandfather ("Poppa") to three amazing grandchildren, Tyler J. Uppstrom, Kelsey L. Uppstrom and Melissa M. Mason. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Gloucester, the son of John S. Alves and Margaret A. (Hunt) Alves. He is predeceased by his brother, John Alves. He was a United States Navy veteran. After graduation from Coyne Electrical & Technical School and service in the Navy, he was employed by New England Electric Company as a draftsman for over 35 years. He was fondly known as "Poppa" to family and friends alike. He was an avid traveler always up for an adventure! Bill and Mary traveled to over 40 states and 9 countries. Two of his favorite trips were to Hawaii and Ireland. He enjoyed movies, ice cream rides with the kids, sports and most of all spending time with his wife and family and watching his beloved Red Sox.

Bill's calling hours will be held on Monday, April 17th from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury. His Memorial Service will be held following the calling hours at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
