Michael Haynes Obituary

Michael S. Haynes, 59

FRANKLIN - Michael S. Haynes, 59, of Franklin and Truro, MA, passed away on April 22, 2017, after an illness.

He was born in Wilmington, DE on March 28, 1958, son of the late Paul W. Haynes and Adele Haynes of Shrewsbury, MA. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Cullinan Haynes and his two loving daughters, Brooke of Andover, NH and Victoria of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his two siblings, Paul F. Haynes of Marblehead, MA and Mary Ellen Kimball of Glastonbury, CT; and his many nieces and nephews as well as his grand niece, Samarah Saad.

As a child Mike lived in Shrewsbury, MA, graduating from Shrewsbury High School in 1976 and then received his bachelor's degree from Middlebury College in 1981, where he played football and lacrosse. After graduating he taught school at the Rectory School in Connecticut before moving into a 34-year career as a financial advisor with UBS. There he was Sr. Vice President and their Managing Partner of The Haynes Group in Boston.

Mike was involved with many organizations and charities, including: member of the Board of Trustees at Ursuline Academy of Dedham, Treasurer of the Delta Upsilon 13 Club of Middlebury College, and past board member of the Benjamin Franklin Charter School. He was an active member of the Cobb Farm Subdivision Association. He was an avid tennis player and could often be found on the courts at the Adirondack Club and on the outer cape. He was an energetic skier, and swam in fundraising events including the Boston Swim Across America and the Provincetown Swim for Life. He fervently cheered on the Patriots and Red Sox, always in the company of friends and family.

He also loved to adventure travel, especially with family. Last summer his daughters, nieces, nephew and friends rafted down the Grand Canyon two weeks after concluding cancer treatments. It was his fourth rafting trip in the Canyon. As recently as this January, he hiked the peaks at Machu Picchu and boated the Galapagos with his family. Other travels have included successfully summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, traveling New Zealand and Australia, skiing in Sun Valley, camping in Tanzania and the Tetons, and being a tourist in the Czech Republic, Italy, Britain, and France.

His life's passion centered around helping others succeed and become the best versions of themselves, and often encouraged friends and family to "Desire the good of all and the universe will work with you".

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. at the Ginley Funeral Home, 131 Main Street, Franklin, MA. Please see the website at www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com to submit condolences. A future memorial and burial will be private. Dear Cathy, After just learning today of Adele's passing, I read about Michael. I am so very sorry. I had not spoken to Adele for quite awhile as I too lost my son on 10/1/2017, Jason , at the age of 36 of Melanoma Brain Cancer. It was devastating . Angels gone way too early. This must have been such a difficult time for you

To the Haynes Family, I was so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was a great man and will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time. We first met in college and then I was so lucky to find we lived in the same town years later. He had a big impact on my life and I will miss his humor and sincere positive attitude in anything and everything. He is in a better place until we can all enjoy his spirit again.

To The Haynes Family, I went to High School with Mike and we recently celebrated our 40th reunion and we were graced by Mike's presence. I'm so happy I had the opportunity to reminisce with Mike about our High School days. He was a great classmate, always smiling and a lot of fun. The Class of 76 was truly blessed. We know that his spirit will live on in all of us. Rest in Peace, Mike.
