When mom was still living on fisher ave. but Alzheimer´s was progressing, at sundown her agitation was always the same, her children were not home yet and it was getting dark...I took this photo of her setting the table, at the time I never noticed until much later, it was set for seven...the photo is from from October 2010, and on December 17th 2010, I remember because it was a significant date, I brought her to Forest Hill all alone, she was there until December 19th, 2014. 10 years Mommy and I miss you terribly so.

Heart fully expressed beyond words, as you colored in the heart and encircled it repeatedly. Message received. Our precious moments shared creating art together. ~ rX

1991. When my mom became very ill, comatose and w/a 20% chance of survival, i was driven to write to a collective of individuals she admired for prayers and inspire her as she recovered slowly. These special letters among others resonated deeply with her. Some were delivered to her at the hospital. I will add we were blessed with 23 more years with my mother.

During these challenging times, both my mom and dad are very much on my mind.
Mom was 13 when WWII began and 19 when it ended. Her formative years were during a global war. Her father passed away when she was 14 years old.
My mom came from a generation that overcame the Great Depression where her Maniwaki community worked together, supporting each other in every way. Her brother Lambert served as a soldier in Europe during the war.
People reached out to each other. Those were my parents’ values to the core.
My mom and dad raised 7 children. Family was their everything. There is no birthday, no occasion that slipped by without a celebration. Being 9 in our family, along with Christmas, Valentine’s, St-Patrick’s Day, Easter, Canada Day, Thanksgiving, there was always something going on. Relatives stayed in contact and would drop by unannounced; it was the norm. They were always welcomed and greeted with love. Church was part of our community too. Though my parents were Catholic, they welcomed all religions. From Jehovah Witness to the Mormons who would drop by. They were invited in our home and we would listen to their stories and pray with them. Yes, our family met challenges, but they never gave up, let alone complain. Married for 45 years. They were hard working. My father had 3 jobs at one time. They were humble. They were always grateful in all ways and simply wanted all to be happy and healthy.
My mom was loved by all the children in the neighborhood. She knew all of their names. Later in life, she volunteered at the same school we all attended as children. I visited her while she was supervising the students during their lunch hour. It was the same there, she knew all the student’s names, and they all loved and respected her. She treated them like her own and listened to what they wanted to say and spoke to them genuinely interested and the student’s felt it.
On my mom’s will, she had noted, I love all my children equally. Remember the good times. It truly was from unconditional love. That was her ultimate gift to us. That was my mom. My dad’s last words as he was passing away, wrote on a small piece of paper the words I Love You All. That was his ultimate gift to us. Also moved from unconditional love. That was my dad.
If you were lucky enough to have met my dad or mom, you would understand where I am coming from. Blessings. Lots and lots of them.

Hollywood, California. Happy times together. “Where words fail, music speaks.” Hans Christian Andersen. Their smiles reveal the music outside and inside. Dad was a jazz connoisseur, told me stories about Oscar Peterson at the famous Standish Hall in Hull and other jazz greats, he loved music, mom had a keen eye for fine arts and classics and in her 70s enrolled at the University of Ottawa in their archeology program. Together, they were exceptional, as our parents and loved by whoever met them. What a legacy!
