Richard W. "Dick" Russell

ANDOVER/BATH-Richard W. "Dick" Russell, 78, of Andover, formerly of Bath,passed away early Thursday morning (Nov. 10, 2016) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, after a short illness.

Born in South Bradford, N.Y. on Jan. 2, 1938, he was a son of the late Walter and

Helen (Bailey) Russell. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his son, Dennis in 1960 and his five sisters, Bessie Torpy, Velma Blodgett, Eva Fassett, Gertrude DeWert and Margaret Rodbourn.

A resident of Bath for most of his life, Dick also resided in Ocala, Fla., Lamoka Lake and in Andover for the past year.

He began his 44 year career with the former Ingersoll Rand Co. and later the Dresser-Rand Co. in Painted Post, retiring in February of 2000.

Throughout the year Dick enjoyed several hobbies including, tinkering in his garage and spending time repairing small engines. He also liked to hunt and fish, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His loving family includes his wife of 58 years, the former Margaret Covell, who he married at the Mitchellsville Church on March 19, 1958; his daughter, Eva (Neil) Benedict of Wellsville; his two granddaughters, Meghan (Aaron) Peters of Falls Church, Va. and Jillian (Matthew) Vilasi of Fairfax, Va.; his two great- grandsons, Aaron Jr. "A.J." Peters and Luca Vilasi; also a great-granddaughter, who is expected to be born in December; his brother, Frank (Dolores) Russell of Corning; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 4-5:30 p.m. today (Sunday) at the Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath, 107 E. Steuben St., where a time of remembrance will take place at 5:30 p.m. today. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Mitchellsville Cemetery.
