Marjorie C. Brockway

1917 - 2014

CORNING | Marjorie C. Keagle Brockway, age 96, formerly of Corning, NY, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014. She was the daughter of Clara Jane Ayers Keagle and Charles Keagle, born June 14, 1917. She graduated from Corning Free Academy and the Massachusetts School of Art. She studied with Lars Hoftrup of Elmira College and Joseph Lalone another local artist teacher. Marjorie was an accomplished artist. She was employed with Steuben Glass as a Commercial artist. She would also hold many art shows in the Corning/Elmira area. She taught art in her own studio in South Corning.
She married William Brockway in Corning, on August 28, 1937. He predeceased her in 1987. She is also predeceased by a son, David John Brockway in 1941, a daughter, Gloria Brockway Bloise in 2007, her brothers, Gerald Keagle, Roger Keagle and her sister, Alice Keagle Heverly.
She is survived by a daughter: Kay (Jim) Pepper of Addison, NY; grandchildren: Kirk (Pam) Pepper of Addison, Wendy (Graydon) Daines of Addison, Gina (Barry) Burkhart of TX, Tony (Victoria) Bloise of NC; great-grandchildren: Amanda, Sasha, Matthew, Megan, and Marlee, many nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew Nancy Harndon and Michael Heverly, and a dear friend, Sandy Lynch and many friends and caregivers at Elderwood Nursing Home.
Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter-Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall St. Addison, NY 14801 on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 1:00PM-2:00PM. Funeral services will immediately follow calling hours at the funeral home at 2:00PM. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Elmwood Cemetery, Caton, NY.
