Matthew Tobia Obituary

Matthew Tobia
Corning - Matthew Joseph Tobia, age 30, of Corning, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Corning Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1991 in South Korea and arrived home on July 26, 1991.
Matthew graduated from Corning East High School in 2009 where he excelled at football and lacrosse. He was a four year starter with the Corning East Lacrosse team and was the 15th highest scorer in the entire East High Lacrosse program history. He was a member of the 2008 Western Lacrosse Team in the Empire State Games. Matthew attended the University of Delaware on a lacrosse scholarship until it was cut short due to a sports injury.
Matthew was a compassionate, loving young man who loved to make people happy. He was always a jokester and aimed to make you laugh with his antics. Matt cared deeply about his family and lived by the motto "Family First", which was tattooed on his wrists.
Matthew is survived by parents, Joseph and Elisa Tobia of Corning, sister, Christine (Alex) Curran of Midland, Texas, a niece, Avery Curran, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Private services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Matthew's name may be sent to: National Alliance on Mental illness local affiliate NAMI of the Finger Lakes. https://givebox.com/namiflgift or PO Box 6544, Ithaca, NY 14851-6544.
We are most grateful for the many years of care provided by Corning Hospital Emergency Room Staff and Dr. Hannah Bushnell.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. Coach T would be so full of sadness, but his saying was always" we will overcome". He was so proud to be a part of every athlete's accomplishments; big or small. Soar high Matt.
