Ruth Fontenot Obituary
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Ruth M. Fontenot, 82, who died on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at her residence in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Reverend Gilbert Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Trudy LaFleur and Danny McDaniel. Giftbearers will be Kathleen McDaniel and Bree Vigé. Eulogist will be Tanna Vigé Schexnayder. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "How Great Thou Art", "J'irai La Voir Un Jour" and "Ave Maria" for the services.
Survivors include her four daughters, Rita Arlene Vigé, Tanna Vigé Schexnayder, Vickey Ann Fontenot and Karen Fontenot Lavergne and her husband Tyler; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Darla, Tony, Bree, Jehnna, Sarah and Christopher; six great grandchildren, Danielle, Autumn, Haiden, Emery, Alexis, Grayson and one on the way; two sisters, Nell Millang and her husband John and Dean Dow; and one brother, Nelan McDaniel.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Killren Fontenot; her first husband, Elray Vigé; one daughter, Carlos Vigé Emami; parents, Leo and Alice Fontenot McDaniel; two sisters, Effie Champagne and Helen Farish; three brothers, Hubert McDaniel, Roy McDaniel and Ray McDaniel; and one infant sister, Alice McDaniel.
A lifelong resident of Lafayette, Ruth Fontenot enjoyed playing cards, pokeno, cooking and entertaining her family and friends in her home. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
Pallbearers will be Hedayet Emami, Tyler Lavergne, Tony Vigé, Brian Smith, Danny McDaniel and Jimmy Carriere. Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Lavergne and Jim Miller.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made in Ruth Fontenot's name to the American Cancer Society, 1604 W. Pinhook Rd., Suite 182, Lafayette, LA 70508.
