Maxine Hanks Obituary
Maxine was born July 2, 1949, in Rayne, and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. She graduated from Rayne High School and was co-valedictorian of the class of 1967. After high school, Maxine attended LSU and graduated with an Accounting Degree and a Master's Degree in Social Services.
Maxine worked as a social worker and as an administrator for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals in many capacities throughout her working career. She was also CFO of Magnolia Community Services in Metairie, ensuring a comfortable and fully accessible home environment for people with developmental disabilities. After retirement, Maxine formed Acadian Labradoodles, LLC, and found a calling and passion in breeding Labradoodles. Her greatest joy was seeing families experience the gift of a new puppy. Family meant everything to Maxine; and she leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed.
Maxine is survived by her companion, Ruth Strother, of Baton Rouge; her daughter, Courtney Strother (Karl) and her two children, Aubrey and Ben, of Baton Rouge; her brother, Patrick Hanks and his wife, Faye, of Foley, AL and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oday Pierre and Agatha Chaisson Hanks; her sisters, Sylvia Blanchard, Barbara Mier and Debbie Hanks; her nephews, Mark, Chris and Mike Blanchard; her sister-in-law, Sondra Bourque Hanks and her niece, Cherise Hanks.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center MICU, especially Dr. Snell and Nurse Tristan for the compassionate care given to Maxine and her family.
