Jan McCarthy Martin, was born July 21, 1956, in New Orleans, LA and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. After high school, Jan attended University of Southwestern University, presently known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in Lafayette, LA and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. In May of 1987, she married the love of her life, Keith John Martin. Jan was a parishioner of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA.

Jan devoted her life to her work as a social worker, pouring her passion into helping children with disabilities. She cheered proudly for the Saints, enjoyed University of Louisiana at Lafayette baseball and never missed an Ice Gators hockey game. Live music and zydeco dancing brought her joy. She was both a friend and a mother, warm, welcoming and full of love. Jan treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren. Above all, she carried a deep and abiding faith in God. Family meant everything to Jan; she leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed.

Jan is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Keith John Martin, of Lafayette, LA; her father, Dr. James Maddock McCarthy, Sr.; her son, Jude McCarthy Martin and his wife, Misty, of Lafayette, LA; her daughter, Emma Elizabeth Carline and her husband, Mark, of Lafayette, LA; her three sisters, Jennifer Steckler, of Lafayette, LA, Joan McCarthy, of Lafayette, LA and Julie McCarthy, of Baton Rouge, LA; her extended family, Kim McCarthy, of Lafayette, LA; her four grandchildren, Annabel Martin, Aiden Martin, Miles Carline and Eloise Carline and dear nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Sybil LeBlanc McCarthy; her brother, Dr. James Maddock McCarthy, Jr., and her granddaughter, Madison Carline.

The family wishes to thank the ICU staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Jan and her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jan's name to Maddie's Footprints, 234 Rue Beauregard, Suite 201, 337-534-4209, https://maddiesfootprints.org/.
