A Funeral Service will be celebrated Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Joyce Anderson Wiget, 83, who passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA.

Visitation will be observed on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of service, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.

Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.

Reverend Weldon Moak, of Broussard, LA, will officiate.

Joyce was born June 24, 1942, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. A proud veteran, she served as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force.

Joyce spent the first 18 years of her life growing up in Beaver Dam, WI. After graduating high school in 1961, Joyce moved to Minnesota to live with her aunt and uncle. In 1963, she enlisted in the United States Air Force, which was her dream since the third grade. After basic training, she hoped to be stationed outside of Texas, but assigned to Randolph Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas, as a clerk, which was ultimately embraced. Joyce met the love of her life, Joe Wiget, which would become her future husband. During their courting days, Joe taught Joyce to bowl.

In June 1964, Joyce and Joe were married, beginning a loving union that lasted for 48 years. They moved to James Connally AFB, Waco, TX, then back to Randolph AFB, where Joyce was discharged in April 1966.

During their time in Texas, Joyce and Joe decided to start a family. They were relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where their daughter Kimberly was born. Two years later, their son Brian was brought into the world in Beaver Dam, WI. When Joyce and her children were able to fly, they joined Joe in the Philippines, where the family stayed for two years. During that time, Joyce volunteered with the Red Cross and was deeply proud of her involvement with Operation Baby Lift. She and her fellow volunteers took a lot of pride in receiving the babies, children, and adults who were flown in and out of the base in Vietnam.

Joyce and her family later lived in Kansas, returned to the Philippines for two more years; then, they moved to Oklahoma, Ohio, and finally, in 1980, to Lafayette, which they have called it home ever since. Previously while in Ohio, Joyce began a second career at Sears and continued in Lafayette, LA until her retirement of 20 years.

Joyce's two children were the greatest joys of her life, as well as, her two wonderful grandchildren, Anna and Kyle whom she loved dearly. Joyce described her daughter-in-law, Karen, as being extremely kind and compassionate that Joyce feels like she is one of her own children.

Most of all, Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Wiget, of Lafayette, LA; her son, Brian Wiget and his wife, Karen, of Lafayette, LA; two grandchildren, Anna Wiget, and Kyle Wiget; her sister, Darlene Morrissey, of Beaver Dam, WI; her brother-in-law, Denny Bruesch, of Beaver Dam, WI, and dear nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Beverly Joseph "Joe" Wiget; her parents, Harvey Carl and Shirley Mae Anderson; her sister, Carmen Bruesch and her brother-in-law, David Morrissey.

The family wishes to thank Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Joyce and her family.
