Louis Acampora Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 18, 2010.
On the morning of Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, Canton area resident Louis John Acampora passed away unexpectedly at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. He was 68 years of age.

Born at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City on July 22, 1941, he was the son of Alfonso J. and Anna (Tessatori) Acampora. While Lou was a young boy his family moved to rural Montgomery County, Pa., where he developed a love for the tranquility of country living. After graduating William Tenet High School Lou enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. After returning home a friend of Lou's arranged a blind date for him whereupon he was introduced to Peggie Yeager. He proposed to her that same evening and she turned him down. Lou was persistent, and eventually Peggie accepted. One month to the day of their meeting the two were united in marriage. The Acamporas lived in the Bucks County community of Chalfonte prior to moving to their farm just outside of Alba 35 years ago. Here they raised their son and three daughters. Lou was blessed with a strong work ethic and a sense of self determination, as set forth by the example of his immigrant parents.

Although farming was a great passion of his, Lou was, by profession, a master electrician. He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and for many years commuted long distances to job sites far away from Bradford County. But there was nothing he wouldn't do to ensure the security of his home and family. Lou was also a man of great faith, and shared in the Christian fellowship of the Canton Ecumenical Parish. He often volunteered his services as an usher, or graciously shared his electrical expertise whenever the need arose. During leisure time he enjoyed working on, and driving, his collection of tractors. With his warm, friendly smile, cheerful demeanor and red pick up, accompanied by Peggie and their two dogs, Lou was a familiar figure to many in the Canton-Troy area. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Lou is survived by his wife, Peggie, at home; son, Louis J. (Nancy) Acampora Jr., of Mohnton, Pa.; daughters, Lisa (Chuck) Hochreiter of Ephrata, Pa., Christina (Doug) Seymour of Denver, Pa., Beth (Nicholas) Haynes of Philadelphia; brothers, John Acampora of Lovettsville, Va., James Acampora of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Mary Jane (Thomas) Gallagher of Redding, Calif., Joan (Robert) White of Philadelphia, Linda (Frank) Cymbala of Blue Bell, Pa., Anne Seig of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 50 N. Center St., Canton. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Canton Ecumenical Parish, with Pastor Jerry Schmidt and Assistant Pastor Brian Myfelt officiating. Interment will follow in Alba Cemetery.

Dear Peggy,

The many days of driving by and seeing Louis sitting out in the yard, just relaxing and enjoying the country life of rural Canton. He was always enjoying the joys of God's creations, whether it was the weather, the beef cows, or the land. God has blessed all who had the opportunity to take the time to visit with Louis. Our prayers are with the you and the family.

How sad. Please accept our sympathies and express our concern to the family.

I often think of Chrissy and Beth and their Mom and Dad. A lot of years have passed since our Doug and George were friends with the girls and the family. I will always remember Lou and his tractors -- how he'd line them up outside - much like a youngster would with his toy tractors.

Ten grandchildren -- be strong for their sake. I'm sure they will miss their Grampa.

Take things a day at a time. Keep photos of him around and talk often about him. I know, it will be very hard but let friends and family be there for you.

Lou may be gone; but rest assured, he will never be forgotten.
