Frank Nicotra Obituary

Wyoming, R.I. - Frank Fortunato Nicotra, 57, of Whispering Pines Road, Wyoming, R.I., died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010.

Frank was the loving husband of Deborah (Fitzgerald) Nicotra and loving father of two; son, Stefan P. Nicotra and daughter, Alyssa M. Nicotra.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 31, 1952, he was the son of Yolanda (Pirri) Nicotra of Waterford and the late Stephen M. Nicotra.

Frank battled a rare form of cancer for years which included a two month stay in Boston for chemotherapy and highly advanced proton radiation treatment.

He was proud to have coached his son, Stefan, in the Chariho Little League and watch him play football through college. Additionally, he was proud to watch his daughter, Alyssa, perform in dance recitals and other various dance/theatre productions.

Frank had a love of sports, particularly the Jets and the Mets. He attended game six of the 1986 Mets World Series, the date of the infamous Red Sox Bill Buckner error. Also loved his music, canoe trips, hiking, biking, and traveling which enabled him to visit 49 states.

Frank was an IT manager for Providence Washington Insurance for over 25 years where he developed strong friendships with many colleagues.

Besides his loving wife, children, and mother, he will be sadly missed by his two sisters, Ria Mills and her husband, Jeffrey, Carlina Brigham and her husband, Gary, all of Waterford and who all participated greatly toward his continuous care; his two pugs, Alex and Belle; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, in St. Paul's Church, 170 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, in the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3-A Bank St., Hope Valley, R.I.

Frank's family extends a special thanks to Massachusetts General Hospital, Yale-New Haven, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, and the Hope Valley-Wyoming EMT.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the organization of such rare cancers, Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation, ACCRF, PO Box 442, Needham MA 02494.

I can't believe it's been 13 years since your passing. I think of you often and remember you fondly. You have a special place in my heart cuz. I know you have met your beautiful grandchildren, and walked Alyssa down the aisle with Stephan
Although I still miss you dearly, I know you are in heaven with the rest of our family. I also know I will see you again one day.

To my cousin and hero! Althought you did not win the battle against cancer, you fought it with dignity, grace and a determination to live. I will always remember the fun we had growing up, all the jokes and family gatherings. You touched the hearts of every person you met in life and this was evident in the number of people who showed up for your funeral. May your family find peace in knowing you suffer no more. Although I will miss you greatly, you will always be in my heart and memories.

To Frank's Family,
I am deeply saddended to hear of Frank's passing. Although I hadn't seen Frank in many years, we were good friends as teenagers; playing ball, listening to music and driving around town talking. He was a great guy. My thoughts are with you during this sad time.

Dear Carlina, Ria, Yolanda and family,
I was so sorry to hear that Frankie has passed away. My memories of him are from our youth - his cool bachelor pad that he made in the basement of your house on Glenwood Avenue, his quiet wry sense of humor and his love of music. I remember him enthusiastically introducing Carlina & I to "Tubular Bells" in 1973. Although I hadn't seen Frankie in a long time, the priest from his parish did a wonderful job today expressing what a great man Frank had become. I feel lucky to have known him in the early years.
Much love to all of you, especially at this very difficult time.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy during your time of loss. I pray that God will grant you peace and strength through the difficult days ahead.

I have great memories of working with your husband and father at PW for over 20 years. He spoke of you often…………you were certainly his true treasures. Hold on tight to your memories and know that he will be in your hearts forever.

He will be greatly missed.

Debbie & Family,

Frank was so proud of his family. To me, he was not only a great manager, but an even greater friend and mentor. I can truly say that I am where I am today because Frank took a chance on a frustrated underwriter at Providence Washington. I'll always be grateful. I'll miss his quick wit and sharp sense of humor that he never lost. You are in my heart and prayers at this time of sorrow.
