Irene Umrysz Obituary

Mystic - Irene (Whittle) Umrysz, of 94 Yetter Road, Mystic, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010.

She was born at home on Pequot Ave., Mystic, on Nov. 22, 1924, to the late Thomas and Lucinda (Whitman) Whittle. In her early years, the family moved to Whittles Farm on Noank/Ledyard Road to manage and run the farm. On Feb. 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to John E. Umrysz.

She attended Lawrence & Memorial Nursing School, graduating in 1945, upon which she went to work for the Stonington VNA, followed by the Pediatric Group until her retirement in the early 90's. Irene was a nurse of great compassion who cared for many generations of families.

Irene, along with her husband, John, owned and operated Yetter Road Tree Farm which was established in 1974. It gave Irene great joy to see the many families come to choose a Christmas tree.

Mr. Umrysz-My wife and I were so saddened to hear that Mrs. Umrysz has passed away. As we get ready to return to Mystic for the Christmas holiday, I recall the many many years that we visited Yetter Tree Farm to tag our Christmas tree. While it became a tradition that our family always looked forward to, the best part of the tradition was seeing you & Mrs. Umrysz and the Umyrsz boys. Mrs. Umrysz was a wonderful and gracious lady and we will all miss her. Please know that we have you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.
