Kimberlee Gibson Obituary

Groton - Kimberlee Dawn Gibson, 45, of Groton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

Kimberlee is the daughter of Betsy Gibson and step daughter of Charles Pierce of Groton and the late Owen Gibson. Kimberlee is survived by the loves of her life, daughters, Elizabeth Ann Daley and Carlee Marie Daley, both of Norwich, stepdaughter, Katie Lee Daley of Boston; a brother, Stephen Gibson of Cocoa, Fla.; and her dearest niece, Kayla Gibson of Groton. Kimberlee also leaves her best friend and work partner, Peter Giffin of Groton.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Marshall Burghardt.

Kimberlee is a graduate of Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School, class of 1985, and she had attended Three Rivers Community College in Norwich and Brevard Community College in Florida.

Kimberlee was employed as an inspector for Mistras Group Inc. of Waterford. In traveling throughout the country for work with Peter, she especially loved Alaska and its rugged scenic beauty. As well as travel, she was a lover of all animals since childhood.

All who knew and loved Kimberlee will miss her infectious laughter and her pretty eyes.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Mitchell St., Groton. There are no visiting hours.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, 109 Pequotsepos Seaport Road, Mystic, CT 06355.

Pete and the girls and Betsey, I am a neighbor and am thoroughly shocked at the loss of Kim. I so loved seeing her with her little girls and she was always so cheerful to me. I remember when her brother built the stone base with the lovely fountain and how the children loved to play there. They would leave little momentos around the fountain like angels and a dreamcatcher. She so loved her girls. Prayers to Pete as he misses her so much. I am thinking of her Mom, so great a grief to bear. She will be remembered.

Betsy and Family,

I am so very saddened to read about Kimbeerlee. Her passing has brought back so many memories. One in particular is your call to me before you left for the hospital to give birth. I did not realize what a bond that made between Kimberlee and I until I read the paper.

We had so many great times together, times that will always remain in my memory bank as great.

I also did not know that Owen passed away.

Hearing of both of them has made me feel that family is so important and we should all be close, in distance and mind.

I am very sorry and wish I could be there, but distance will not allow it.

Love,

Jerry Maranda

Dear Mrs. Gibson, Elizabeth, Carlee, Peter & Family,
Kim will be sadly missed at the office. There is an empty spot at her desk and also in our hearts. She was always eager, willing, and cheerful. She was especially happy when she was able to come to work with her daughter Carlee. We pray for all of you in this time of grief. We will miss her dearly.
Sincerely,
