Baekeland Roll Obituary

Brooklyn - Baekeland Roll, 81, beloved husband of Katharine W. Roll, died peacefully in his home in Brooklyn on Feb. 5, 2006.

Born in Yonkers, N.Y., in 1924 he had formerly lived in Redding and Stonington and spent his summers on Block Island, R.I.

He was the loving father of Wendy D. Ernst of Block Island, R.I., Mark S. Davis of Redding, Laurie D. Sigfridson of Brooklyn, and Jeremy Roll of Block Island. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his eldest son, Michael W. Davis.

He was a graduate of Williams College and attended the Art Students League of New York. He pursued his passion for art throughout his life and had many successful art shows in New York City, London, and at various local galleries. His creativity extended into other interests as well, especially cooking and gardening. He and his wife had many wonderful travels worldwide, including extended stays in England and in France.

Funeral services are private. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Donations in his memory can be made to your local public radio or TV station, (his favorite was WGBH, 125 Weston Ave., Boston, MA 02134, 617-300-3900) or to the Block Island Conservancy, P.O. Box 84, Block Island, RI 02807, 401-466-3111.

Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson is in charge of arrangements.
