Charlie Wolf Obituary

Charlie Wolf, a lifelong resident of White County, died Sunday, two weeks after celebrating his 86th birthday.
He was born Feb. 1, 1924 in Chalmers to the late Adlai and Mary (Woods) Wolf. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1942. During his high school basketball career a local sportswriter wrote, "Charlie Wolf can make a basketball do everything but give milk."
He retired as Superintendent of the State Highway Sub district Garage in Monticello. He served two terms as Honey Creek township trustee and was White County Democratic chairman for 24 years.
He was married Dec. 2, 1945 to Kathleen "Katie" Munsterman, who survives.
A lifelong fan of the Purdue Boilermakers, he was a member of the John Purdue Club and attended home football games until he was 82. He took his first commercial airline flight to watch the Boilermakers play in the 2001 Rose Bowl.
He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1991 by Gov. Evan Bayh.
He was a longtime member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club and St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sister, Joy Howard of Frankfort, daughter, Marcia Scheele of Muncie, son, Mark of Littleton, Colo., and two grandsons, Matthew of Los Angeles, Calif. and Michael of Denver, Colo. He was predeceased by five brothers: Adlai Jr., Merrill, Burdell "Rusty," George and Roger Wolf.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Springer Voorhis Draper Funeral Home, Monticello and also one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service, Thursday, at St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds.
Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Reynolds.
Donations are suggested to Monticello Kiwanis Club for Riley Hospital for Children or St. James Lutheran Daycare.
