John Izzo Obituary

Former Westport Selectman John James Izzo, Sr., 71, a lifetime resident of Westport, owner of Arrow Express, Inc. couriers in Bridgeport, CT, inventor of Bikers Delight Signal Light and former Westport Selectman died after a courageous battle on March 13th. John, the son of James and Angelina (DiDomenico) Izzo, is one of 13 brothers and sisters. Predeceased by Salvatore, Theresa, Antoinette, Sarah, Rosie and Joseph and survived by Mary Lehn, Florence (Lee) Schaffer, Anthony, James, Bernard and Francis (Cookie), as well as his many nieces and nephews. His father emigrated from Italy and settled in Westport in 1912 and he and Angelina instilled in him a great passion for his family and their heritage while raising their children on Izzo Lane. He was a Staples High School graduate, class of 1961, and subsequently received his Associates Degree from Norwalk Community College. An avid golfer, he enjoyed many days with “the boys” at Longshore Golf Course and Mario’s Place as well as tooling around in his green 1967 Ford Exel convertible. John will be truly missed by his beloved wife of 50 years, Joan Avery Izzo, his sons and their wives, Joseph and Tricia Izzo of Milford and John Jr. and Lisa Izzo of Fairfield. He cherished his grandchildren and was a beloved “Poopa” to Jessica, Nolan, Avery and Chase. John’s contagious good humor, unending generosity, love of life and family and unwavering loyalty will forever remain in our hearts. As always, he did it his way! The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home 210 Post Rd. E., Westport, CT on Tuesday March 17th from 4 to 8PM. Friends are invited to attend a funeral on Wednesday March 18th 10:00AM from the funeral home and 10:30AM in Assumption Church 98 Riverside Ave. Westport, CT. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32256. There are few people that make me smile every time I see them - "The Iz" is one of them. I have played numerous rounds of golf and shared many a cocktail with John and that makes me a lucky guy. He is truly one of the good guys.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
