Victor Dowd Obituary

Victor E. Dowd, age 89 of Westport, died in family company on Monday, May 17, 2010 at CT Health of Southport. Born in Brooklyn , NY, the son of the late Joseph and Jeanne (Aime') Dowd, he was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Bonar) Dowd for 59 years. An artist, Mr. Dowd worked in freelance commercial illustration and enjoyed painting in watercolor. He played golf at Longshore and enjoyed model railroading. He was very active at Assumption Church in Westport, and he served in the Ghost Army, a special force of the U.S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; 4 children, Jeffrey Dowd and his wife Marin, Gregory Dowd and his wife Ada, Eugenia A. LeBlanc and her husband Glen, and Peter Dowd and his wife Lynn; a sister, Kaye Bald and her husband Kenneth; as well as 5 cherished grandchildren, Catrin, Natalie, Gabrielle, Elliot and Emma and and 5 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 10 am at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Avenue, Westport, with burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms. His family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 pm at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. Memorial contributions may be directed to Assumption Church.
