Shawn Greenwood Obituary
ITHACA - Shawn M. Greenwood, age 29, of Ithaca, died Tuesday afternoon. Shawn was born in Ithaca, the son of Sherry Greenwood and Vernon Hubbard. He enjoyed his music and being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Sherry Greenwood and Vernon Hubbard; a daughter, Jenea Greenwood; his unborn child, Shawn Micheal Greenwood; his girlfriend, Cassie Landes; two stepchildren, Nazier Landes and Lyric Howard; four sisters, Paula Spencer, Tracey Spencer, Kenyatta Hubbard, and Carinn Hubbard; two brothers, Gary Spencer and Sipeoy Washington III; several nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends; a godmother, Laurie Meeks; his lifelong cousins, Chris Herson and Ma Bonna.
Friends and family may call Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at St. James AME Zion Church, 116 Cleveland Avenue, Ithaca. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Ithaca. Memorials may be made to the family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I can remember seeing Shawn at the pyramid mall in Ithaca and he handed my son a 100 dollar bill. Those were the days.... I love that man and his genuine smile was great and it will be missed a lot....

It's been along time since we have seen Shawn... but we sure do remember him as that sweet little boy that used to come to our house with Sipeo to play with J.R., he was always full of smiles and life. He will be greatly missed by all, we were very shocked to hear of such a tragedy. Hang in there Sherry and stay strong, Shawn was a good kid and loved by all. I am so sorry for your lost, as a mother myself I just can't imagine loosing a child - I know it's not suppose to be that way. Hang in there Sherry and stay strong. God Bless. RIP Shawn

RIP Cease!!! Most def had the chance to know what a good person he was. His life was taken too soon, however I hope all that knew him will find comfort in knowing that hhe is in good hands. Cassie he is forever in your heart. I know it is not the same however you love him as he did you and nothing can take that from you. He is watching over all of his family and trusted friends.

I will remember your grin the most. You would look at me out of the corner of your eye and we both knew you were up to something! Your charm was your best trait and everyone fell in love with it! I hadn't seen "Cease" for a while and I was wondering where he had been. Then one day a few months back I saw him, I was glad to see that he was doing well...and he still had that wonderful smile! We had a breif conversation hugged and went our separate ways. My memories of him are from some years ago, but one thing that always stuck out was his smile! God bless you "Cease" and I'm praying for your family that they will find peace in God. Cassie, be strong and God bless you as well.

I knew Shawn but not that well I know most of his family members and from what I knew of him he would be there to help his family through whatever. Shawn was a great guy no matter what anybody else says. He will missed dearly my heart and prayers go out to The whole family keep your heads high and know that he is in a better place!! Shawn, won my heart the very day he was brought home from the hospital.Named after my brother.He was the light in my life.No matter where he was in life.No matter how long he was gone.He always managed to find me.Always a hug and a how you doing Aunt Robin. Cease...man I couldnt believe the news when I heard it. I was in denial. You were one of the coolest and down to earth dudes i knew coming. You would always go out of your way to say what up and see how I was doing. Its all been playing back in my mind...I was always out there balling and you would come check me and say what up. Shoot around a bit and encouraged me to stay up and keep doing my thing. Always laughing, smiling, and full of life. Its crazy thinking back on some of the flashbacks that have been going on through my head, but one thing I cant forget was your walk...I can tell from a couple blocks it was you (one of a kind). This is hard to do... I met Shawn about 6 years ago, So many memories fill my head and I will never let them go. This never should have happened he should still be here with us all. There are so many things I wanted to tell him but never said anything at all. I regret that so much. I hope he can rest in peace with the angels by his side. Cease was a good person, always willing to help someone and constantly offereing good advice. I appreciate all the times he looked out for me and his encouragement in pursuing my college degree. My condolences to his family and to Cassie. God bless you all in this tough time!

What I remember most about Shawn was his laugh and smirky smile, it really was contagious. No matter what he did you just couldn't stay mad at him ! He also has the most beautiful eyes that could pierce right thru you, He was a beautiful person my heart goes out to his mother his sister his family his children, this truly is so sad and shocking. Most of my memories with him are from years back. i was lucky enough to run into him again recently and am glad i got to say goodbye in my own way..He has his wings now and for someone who seemed to live a "hardknock" life is finally free so i can find peace in that. tho it seems his life ended so abruptly and far too short i believe the one above must of had it in his plans
