Enfield - Samantha (Sam) Anne Strait aged 23 from Enfield, NY died on April 25, 2018 at Cayuga Medical Center Ithaca, NY due to complications of asthma.
Sam was born on June 20, 1994 in Fairfax, Virginia. She is survived by her parents Steve Strait and Verushka (Vera) Howe-Strait and brother Austen Strait and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins within the U.S. and overseas.
Samantha loved her dogs Bella and Ziggy and cats Patches and Fluffer. Samantha's goal was to be fiercely independent, go to college, and to help those less fortunate.
Samantha was a loving, affectionate daughter and sister; a trusted and loyal friend, hard-working, compassionate, an insightful wise young woman who did not get to fulfill her goals.
Sam will be deeply missed by all, cherished by family and friends, and will leave a void in the hearts of us all! We will miss her stunning smile and eyes that she shared with us. In lieu of a funeral and services Sam will be memorialized with family and close friends. Suggested memorial donations can be made to the following: Locks of Love, Humane Society, American Lung Association, or a charity of your choice in her name.
Sam was truly an angel whose wings got clipped too soon.

Sam was an amazing young lady and our family will never be the same with her gone. She will be greatly missed. Illalways remember the little girl watching tv in my room and riding crazy rides with me at the little fair and at Seaworld. Love you guys and will always remember her bubbly personality. Sam has always had a very special place in my heart. She was like another daughter to me during her Enfield Elementary School days, and I always enjoyed seeing her smiling face around town as time went on. Vera, Steve and Austin, I am so sorry for your, and our, loss. She was loved by many, and will definitely be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear this terrible news. I loved having Sam as a student back in Bio class at Ithaca High! She and Terra and the whole gang were such a hoot. Even as a young teenager, Sam was a model of kindness and warmth to us all. Thinking of you all!

When Sam and I first met, she was training me on cash register. I was 19, she was 16, and I had never worked in customer service before. I was so nervous that my hands wouldn't stop shaking, and my rookie pace led to a gradual increase in disgruntled customers waiting at the counter. I was on the brink of utter panic when she touched my arm and said, "don't worry about them--you're learning, and they know that. They can go somewhere else if they can't be patient." Sam, a 16 year old High School student, succeeded in providing me with much needed reassurance, as well as the motivation to fulfil that mortifying first shift. For the next three years, she continued to suprise me with her unparralled kindness, her immaculate work ethic, and her innate role as both a strong friend and an endless source of wisdom and confidence. There is truly no one quite as special as Sam Strait. May you rest forever in peace, my dear friend.

Dear Vera & Family,
Reading about Sam in this morning's paper filled me with sadness. I immediately thought of you, Vera, because during Sam's year as my student at TST, we communicated often. She was a lovely--both in body and spirit. The last few times I saw her, she was so happy to tell me about her pups. It was gratifying to see that she was satisfied by the way she was making her way in the world. Although she was taken from you much too young, I hope her smile and joy can bring all of you some comfort.
