Catherine Joan Strait

MUNCIE – Catherine Joan Strait, 94, passed away on Monday morning, January 12, 2026 at Morrison Woods Health Campus.
She was born on February 5, 1931 in Muncie, the daughter of Paul and Martha (Gist) Bailey and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1949. She married the love of her life, Charles R. Strait on September 1, 1950.
Catherine worked for Ball State University as the secretary for the Psychology Department for over 40 years. She was a lifetime member of Riverside Methodist Church, where she was very active. She and her husband Charles were inseparable. They were always together and Catherine was right by his side for his trap-shooting events and his other activities.
Surviving are one son, Charles Strait (partner, Laurie Wonsil); one daughter, Paula Bradley (husband, James); three grandchildren, Kelli Vannatter (husband, Ryan), Christopher Strait (wife, Emily) and Kyle Strait (wife, Meredith); eight great-grandchildren, Abigail, Charles, Harrison, Theodore, Penelope, Ellie, Madison and Lexi; and special nieces, Sandy and Susie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 56 years, Charles R. Strait on August 6, 2006; one brother, Jack Bailey; and her sister to whom she was very close to, Betty Satterfield.
Private graveside services were held at Gardens of Memory Cemetery next to Charles.
