Jerry B. Rivers

Jerry B. Rivers, age 60 of Woodlawn, TN, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Skyline Medical Center.

He was born on May 3, 1952 in Birmingham, AL to the late Oscar Rivers and Leila Beck Rivers. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Rivers and Sandra Rivers, and three brothers, Oscar Rivers, Jr., Herman Rivers and Larry Rivers.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 12 p.m., at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with Reverend Eddie Dean Sumbler officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West in Hopkinsville, KY with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. and Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Jerry was the Director of the Veterans Administration in Montgomery County. He was a Retired U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Triple Nickel and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Rivers of Woodlawn, TN; son, Jermaine Rivers of Savannah, GA; two daughters, Traci (Lloyd) Montgomery and Kenisha (Donald) Krull of Clarksville, TN; two brothers, Theodore Rivers and Willie Rivers; two sisters, Dollie Whatlie and Theordosia Young; ten grandchildren; great aunt, Annie (Napolean) Brazier; and host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Jerry Rivers. I first became acquainted with Jerry at the ENT Clinic, Blanchfield. He came in anytime he was in the building to say hello,to all of the staff and brighten our day with that smile. When my husband needed assistance to get his benefits filed
he was available to help and also helped me with filing for widow's benefits in 2010. Through it all Jerry always was a joy to have on my side.
He served this community so well and completely without regard for his own time (I am sure he needed). Thank you for sharing his time with the rest of us.
We shall keep you in our prayers, may God be with you at this time of loss.
