JULIANA ALEJANDRO Obituary

JULIANA ESPINOZA ALEJANDRO
WESLACO - Juliana Espinoza Alejandro, 111, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at her residence following a brief illness. Born June 19, 1898 to Jorge Espinoza and Maria de Jesus Espinoza (Garcia) in Raices, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She was recognized yearly for being Weslaco's centurion on every birthdate and perhaps the oldest citizen in the Valley. Mrs. Alejandro grew up witnessing some of history's greatest events. As an infant she lived under the dictatorship of Mexican President Porfirio Diaz at the start of the Mexican Revolution. Her father was recruited by Pancho Villa"s Rebel Army to fight alongside the leader. Juliana's father was never to return, leading the family to believe he had died valiantly in battle.
She had the fondest of memories riding horseback and show jumping in her youth. She came to the Rio Grande Valley in 1954 , with her husband, Esteban Alejandro, whom she was married to for 64 years. Together they raised their nine children until his passing in 1977. Her longevity was an inspiration to her family. She remains a wonderful example of a dedicated Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She will be truly missed by her family. Survivors include her sons: Jose Alejandro and Santos Alejandro. Daughters; Teresa Reyes, Gregoria Mendoza, Teresa Miranda and Maria Guadalupe Villarreal; 52 grandchildren, 147 great grandchildren, 176 great great grandchildren and 10 great great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two children son Juan Alejandro and daughter Julia Medrano. Visitation will take place today Sunday from 5-9 and Monday from 2-9, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco with Pastor Mike Escamilla of Templo Bethel Pentacostal Church officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Villarreal, Ernesto Miranda, Dr. Ruben Alejandro, Guadalupe Reyes, Efrain Alejandro and Pedro Mendoza Jr. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home 900 W. 4th Weslaco, TX

MY "AMANITA" LIKE WE CALLED HER WAS THE BEST GRANDMA EVER! FRANK AND I WELL SURELY MISS HER ESPECIALLY BECAUSE EVERY TIME WE WENT TO WESLACO AND WE WOULD COME BACK TO DALLAS. WE WOULD STOP BY AND SHE WOULD GIVE US HER BLESSING AND SHE SANG "EL CANTO DEL CAMINO". SHE WOULD ACTUALLY WALK TO THE DOOR AND WATCH US DRIVE OFF STILL SINGING HER SONG. MY HUSBAND AND I THANK GOD FOR ALL THE BEAUTIFUL YEARS WE HAD WITH HER. MY DAD IS HER OLDEST SON JOSE ALEJANDRO 93 YRS. OLD. WE ARE GOING TO CHARISH ALL THE MEMORIES, WE SURE HAVE AWHOLE LOT OF THEM!! WE LOVE YOU AMANITA FOREVER AND ALWAYS!!! Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
