Scott Gast Obituary

Scott G. Gast

FAIRVIEW PARK: Scott G. Gast, age 30, of Fairview Park, and formerly of Castalia, passed away November 2, 2014, after an automobile accident in Avon.

He was born April 13, 1984 in Sandusky, graduated from Margaretta High School in 2002, and earned two degrees from Bowling Green State University. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and worked as a senior banker and product specialist at Charter One Bank in Cleveland. This past Friday, he passed the test required to obtain a brokerage license. His daytime career as a banker paid the bills, but nighttime gigs as a musician made his young life worth living. For more than a decade, he gained fame in the Sandusky area as front man for the CoCoBeanOs, one of the region's most beloved local bands. Scott loved to perform and was a great, great entertainer. He always gave 100 percent and prided himself with every performance, while also looking forward to the next one. He'd recently returned from Honduras, where he played in front of more than 100,000 people as front man for the Rolling Stones tribute band, Start Me Up. The band performed across the world and was featured on national Latin American television. Scott and his younger brother, Bryan Gast-also a CocoBeanOs bandmate-performed in local churches as part of a Christian band called Shoe Box during high school and college. Scott was a perfectionist, always with a big smile, and ready to help out anyone.

He is survived by his parents: George and Melanae (Kuns) Gast; brother, Bryan Gast; maternal grandmother, Linda Kuns; paternal grandparents: Norbert and Donna (Lenyo) Gast; uncles: Gary Gast, Brian Kuns and Len Kuns and their families; and many cousins.

Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Norman "Sam" Kuns.

Friends may call from 5-8 PM Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Ransom Funeral and Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St, Castalia, and from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM Friday November 7, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia. Rev. Kathleen Suggitt and Rev. Ken Lill will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.

I never met Mr. Gast but was lucky enough to catch his performance at Sawmill Creek on Saturday the 1st. I had been out celebrating a birthday with friends and as soon as we stepped through the doors and heard the first few notes of Summer of 69 we knew we had found our place for the night. He had a voice you could get lost in and it took you back to a better place and time. I wish I would have found this band sooner. I would have been a forever fan. My sincerest sympathy to the parents, family, and friends of Mr. Gast.
