Hergert, Warren John

Warren John Hergert, age 85, of Oshkosh, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Arborview Manor in Oshkosh. He was born on March 14, 1929 in Oshkosh, a son of the late Philip and Anna M. (Lautenschlager) Hergert. Warren married Elizabeth "Boots" Bernier on February 19, 1952.

Warren worked at Hergert Quality Dairy from 1946-1959 with his parents and brothers. He served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1956. In 1955 Westgate Sport Center was started in a small building on Sawyer Creek in Oshkosh by Anna, Marvin, Warren and Robert Hergert. In 1959 the business was relocated to its current location on Sawyer Street and became Hergert's Sport Center, a business that Warren was very proud of. Even upon retirement, Warren was a fixture on a daily basis at the business, helping out wherever he could.

Every Sunday morning Warren's family had breakfast and coffee with him at his home, something he looked forward to doing every week. He also enjoyed many other visits with family and friends and spent countless hours taking care of his yard and vegetable gardens. Warren and Boots spent several winters in Cocoa Beach, Florida where they met many life-long friends. In his younger years, Warren was an avid hunter and enjoyed skiing with his children and grandchildren.

Warren is survived by three sons; Ralph (Rose Dahl) Hergert of Oshkosh, Rick (Diane) Hergert of Oshkosh, Ronald Hergert of Oshkosh; a sister, Doris Allen (Jerry Hesselink) of Oshkosh; brother Robert (Judy) Hergert; five grandchildren; Natalie Hergert, Nicole (Brian Pinch) Hergert, Tammy (Chris) Hergert Santos, Trista (Adam Bronowicz) Hergert, Sarah Hammersland. He is also survived by six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Raymond Hergert and one brother Marvin Hergert. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and his Perkins coffee friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Arborview Manor for the wonderful care provided to Warren during his short time there. Also, a special thank you to Warren's neighbors and friends who have helped him in so many ways, especially since the death of his beloved "Boots."

Funeral services for Warren will be Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 1:00pm in the Fiss and Bills Poklasny Funeral Home, the Rev Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Funeral Home, Tuesday from 10am until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers a Memorial has been established.
