Mary Henning Obituary

Mary Jo Henning

Parrish, FL - Mary Jo Henning, 67, of Parrish, FL, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, died on January 16, 2021.

Mary Jo was born on December 12, 1953, in Oshkosh, WI, to Russell and Shirley (Bean) Henning. Known as "Jo Jo" to much of her family, she was fiercely loyal and protective, and possessed a zest for life, travel, and adventure.

Mary Jo loved rushing to the dancefloor for an INXS jam, soaking in a hot tub with an Old Fashioned, basking in the sunshine on a Florida beach, reveling in a Green Bay Packers victory after Wayne Larrivee pronounced "The Dagger," gracefully tending to yellow roses, taking in the latest exhibit at The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, visiting dazzling locales like Greece, Israel, and Egypt, and treating herself to Culver's cheese curds and a chocolate malt. She also had a stare that could freeze you in your tracks.

She worked for much of her life at the Pioneer Inn and Kimberly-Clark, where she was always hard-working, reliable, and made numerous lifelong friendships.

She is survived by her two sons, Josh (Jillian) Luft of Brooklyn, NY, and Noah Luft of Oshkosh. She is also survived by her five siblings, Jay Jean (Rick) Bartelt, Rusty (Debbie) Henning, Bob (Carrie) Henning, Julie (Randy) Greene, and David (Alice) Henning; her nieces and nephews; and the father of her sons, Rocky Luft.

The family would like to thank Dr. Harandi of Florida Cancer Specialists and the nurses of Tidewell Hospice for the generous care they provided.

A memorial service in celebration of Mary Jo's life will be held in Oshkosh at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).

Dear Henning cousins, I just received this obituary from Sondra today about Mary Jo. I'm so very sad to hear this news. Though we haven't been in contact in some time, I wanted you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I remember as kids when Jackie would come to town from Milwaukee and how much fun we used to have seeing him. Even a time when Mary Jo and Jay Jean came to stay over night at my house. Also heard about losing your mom recently too. I pray you all have the peace and comfort of the Lord in your hearts to help you through this time. Take care Love Joni

I always have greatly missed my first friends, Mary Jo and Jay Jean Henning. Their grandparents' yard and ours shared a boundary. My earliest memory is being lifted over the white picket fence to play with the girls on their swingset. Godspeed, Mary Jo!
