NEW OXFORD, PA. — Clifford J. Friend, 69, of New Oxford, Pa., recently of Newport, Tenn., and formerly of Wellington, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015. Born on Feb. 5, 1946, in West Virginia, he was the son of Maxine (Friend) Whiton, currently living in Amherst, and the late Clarence Friend. Clifford grew up in the Wellington area and graduated from the Wellington High School Class of 1964. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served during the Vietnam War.
Clifford was a retiree from R.H. Sheppard, Hanover, Pa. He was a very hands-on kind of guy who loved to tinker in his garage. He enjoyed working on tractors and equipment and even built his own backhoe from scratch.
Clifford is survived by his sons Brent and Bill Friend, both of New York, and Kevin Friend of Grafton; six grandchildren; and siblings Ronald Friend of Amherst and Joann (Friend) Smith of Wellington.
Friends and Family will be received on Friday Feb. 20, 2015, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St., Wellington. Services will be held on Saturday at the Wellington Free Will Baptist Church, 205 Woodland St., beginning at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Eddie Kennedy Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
