William Core Obituary

March 19, 1967 - Aug. 4, 2017

Born in Richmond, and raised in Vacaville from the age of seven. A Bulldog at heart that then served in the US Navy aboard the USS Lapon submarine. He returned to Vacaville after his service and met Pamela Sutherlin-Core of San Jose in 1998. They moved to Winters in 2000, married in 2002 and welcomed a son in 2003. He was a loving husband and dedicated father to Jeremy "J.T." Core, Winters. He is also survived by parents, Pat and Billie Core of Vacaville; sister, Patty (Dawson) and her husband Randy; brother, Jeff and his wife Shannon; as well as six nieces and nephews and their spouses, Ryan/Audrey Dawson, Erik/Sarah Core, Chad/Taylyn Core, Zack Dawson, Bailey Dawson and Avery Core. He also leaves behind a great niece, Paisley Dawson. He was loved by Pam's family and leaves behind a sister-in-law, Linda Sutherlin-Gleed, her husband Craig and their adult children, Kyle Gleed, Kellie Gleed-Pagan (husband Adrian) and great nephew, River Pagan; brother-in-law, Jim Sutherlin (wife Nancy) and his adult children, Jim Sutherlin, Jr. (wife Stephanie) and Tricia Sutherlin-Cheshire (husband Chris Cheshire) and her children, Cameron and Charlotte; sister friend-in-law, Lauren Ferdinand-Intagliata and her son Jackson Intagliata. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Helen Schroeder; fraternal grandparents, Charles and Charlotte Harris, and maternal uncle, Chuck Schroeder.

Many of the summers of his youth were spent with his siblings and cousins at the Schroeder property outside of Carson City. He was interested in how things worked (example, grandfather clocks) and would take things apart to see the mechanics. He had a collection of RC trucks in various states of exploration and there may have been an incident with scissors and a blanket. Jory enjoyed swimming with his family, supporting the Dallas Cowboys and watching "geek TV". He will always be remembered for his humor, sarcasm, wit and infectious laughter. He often assigned nicknames to people and was never opposed to lending a hand to friends in need. He was a tell it like it is man that believed in hard work and integrity.

He worked in the scrap metal industry for about 20 years in Northern California and transferred to Tucson, AZ in 2012. He was diagnosed with a rare benign brain tumor (epidermoid cyst) in October 2016. While initial surgery recovery in Tucson was remarkable, he was plagued by complications and returned to California in June 2017 to be closer to family to further his rehabilitation. After a valiant fight, the cyst growth ultimately made recovery impossible and he passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside. Jory was an animal lover with three rescue pets, two of which were Emotional Support Animals/Dogs (Peaches and Sarge) that were present at the Mercy San Juan, Carmichael when he passed. A CaringBridge blog has been maintained throughout the process and will be updated with information regarding a celebration of life https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jorycore.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 from noon to 3 p.m., at Tomats on Grant Ave., Winters.
