Carole Core Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCulla Funeral Home on Feb. 4, 2026.
Carole Ann (Ewers) Core passed away surrounded by loved ones, on January 30, 2026, in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, at the age of 89, following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born on January 5, 1937, in Grafton, West Virginia, she moved to Morgantown, following her marriage, where she remained for many years. She later called Clearwater, Florida her home until 2025 when she moved to Bethel Park, PA to be cared for by family and loved ones.

The daughter of Charles Edward Ewers and Genevieve Posten Ewers, both of whom preceded her in death, Carole grew up in a loving family, in Grafton, WV. She held a special place in her heart for Tygart Lake State Park, where her family-owned property and she spent many days camping and enjoying lake life. She always loved returning to Tygart Lake Lodge to enjoy a good meal, during her visits back to West Virginia. During her high school years, she was a proud member of the Bearcat Marching Band and served as a Princess in the Forest Festival. She married her husband, Richard E. Core, who predeceased her, and together they built and operated a local business, Westover TV Cable Company. Carole was blessed with a family that included her children: Kimberly Core Lanham, David Wayne Core, Lisa Carole Core (deceased), and a stepdaughter, Rebecca Sue Shackleford. In addition, she was blessed to have a special "like-a-daughter" who lived with her for several years, and remained in touch until the end – Donna Ratliff Post.

Her family was her pride and joy, and extended to her siblings, Sue Glover and Charles Ewers, II, as well as her grandchildren - Craig Lanham, Brieanne (Lanham) Beabout, Misty (Core) Kisner, Steven Core, John Core (deceased), Derek Core, David Core, Jr., Samantha Core, Rachel Ryan, Kyle Sheridan, Ashton Kiger, and step-grandchildren - Joseph Montgomery, Paula Montgomery (deceased), Rayne Hutson (deceased), John Montgomery and Bill Montgomery. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren Addison Lanham, Caden Lanham, Evan Kisner, Makena Kisner, Maliya Kisner, Briella Beabout, Brittyn Beabout, and Banks Beabout, as well as multiple additional great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Carole was very fortunate to be able to remain in her home environment throughout her illness as she requested, because of the loving help and support from her family, as well as two very special caregivers – Lisa Mackin and Barbara Carpenter. The family will be forever grateful to them for their loving care, as well as to the various other loving women that contributed to her ability to remain in Florida, where she wanted to be, until the last months of her life.

As a dedicated homemaker, Carole's passions included gardening, traveling, pets, and ballroom dancing, as well as volunteering for various groups over the years, including tutoring in the Monongalia County school system and serving as an aid at Mease Countryside Hospital in Florida. She earned many awards for her ballroom dancing over the years, as she combined her love of travel with her love of dancing, and traveled to competitions all around the world to compete. She was also a proud supporter and generous contributor to the WVU Marching Band over the years.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Carole Ann Core will be held at McCulla Funeral Home on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with visitation from 2-3 pm, followed by a service at 3 pm. The McCulla Funeral Home has also fulfilled Carole's final wishes by providing cremation services.

Her loved ones take comfort in knowing that Carole is free from her daily health struggles and now rests in peace with her loved ones who arrived before her in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Carole was a huge animal lover and was passionate about rescuing animals, rather than purchasing them. To honor Carole's wishes and her life, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to Pet Helper's Inc., a local animal rescue. They can be mailed to 726 East Park Avenue, PMB 311, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.McCulla.com.
