Wayne McKee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 4 to Jul. 7, 2007.
Wayne McKee August 9, 1936 to July 3, 2007 He always made us laugh. It was his way of showing love and caring. Even in the hospital, in the last weeks of his battle with cancer, he would make his caregivers smile. He deeply appreciated their care. Wayne passed away at St. Paul's Hospital on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the age of 70 years. A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hanley Centennial Hall, Hanley, SK. Wayne Dennis McKee was born on August 9th 1937 in rural Hanley to Cecil and Myrtle McKee. As a kid he was a star athlete, and worked delivering groceries, as a farmhand, cutting firewood and in a shingle mill. Eventually he bought a small trucking company, and worked with his brother Rod. For 31 years he delivered goods from Saskatoon to Kenaston, Bladworth and Davidson. He only took one sick day. He had so many friends it was frustrating to walk with him in public places. When Wayne was 29 he took up chuck wagon racing. His wife, Violet, packed the camper most summer weekends, and they took all four kids to the races. He bought a temperamental bay horse named Dick who became famed for leading three of his teams to world championships. When he slowed down he took up willow furniture making. You never saw straighter, more perfect willow works. Wayne hunted deer with his friends, and in his sixties still had excellent eyes and rarely missed, according to him. He loved to tell stories. He was an old-fashioned family man who worked and laughed every day, and then came home to his family and laughed some more. Even when he was tired his blue eyes twinkled. In his last years his grandchildren became a focus of his love, and they returned it. His love lives on in them. He passed away at his favourite hour, early morning, with Violet at his side. Remaining is Wayne's wife, Violet (Hanley); his children and their spouses and children; Denise Graves and Dale Graves (Alison, Curtis) (Saskatoon) Greg McKee (Saskatoon) Jacqueline McKee and Tim Slattery (Taylor, Julia, Mike, Danica) (Saskatoon) Debrah Sundstrom and Johan Sundstrom (Axel, Mikael) (Saskatoon); his sister, Barb Senick (Saskatoon). Predeceased are his parents, Cecil and Myrtle McKee; and his brother, Rodney. Arrangements entrusted to Greg Lalach of Park Funeral Chapel, 244-2103.
