Joann Calvin Obituary

Joann Calvin

Formerly of Muncie, IN - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much loved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Joann Calvin, formerly of Muncie, Indiana. She died Monday, December 12, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Center in Columbus, Indiana.

Joann was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was born October 18, 1928, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to Clyde and Lucy (Mix) Cover. She grew up in a loving home in the country where her father instilled in her a love of nature and her mother instilled in her manners and graciousness.

Joann graduated from Hiram College with a teaching degree and taught for a year in Solon, Ohio, before having her children.

On June 20, 1953, she married the love of her life, Warren "Cal" Calvin in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and they made their home in Muncie, Indiana, for 53 years. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2014, after 60 years of marriage.

Joann and Cal enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, traveling, and dancing to their favorite big band swing music. A special place for Jo and Cal was Naples, Florida, where they wintered for over 30 years.

Jo was very active in the Muncie community as a member of Tri Kappa, a 50 year member of PEO, chairing the annual hospital charity ball and charity auction, and the local PBS Telesale for many years as well as volunteering at Ball Memorial Hospital

She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters, Cathy (Allan) Klein of Elwood, Indiana, Cindy (Paul) Lykins of West Chester, Ohio, Patty (Dan) Hittle of Columbus, Indiana, and son, Warren (Cindy) Calvin of Muncie, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael (Sandy) Calvin, David (Angie) Lykins, Kristen (Noah) Gordon, Brenton Klein, and Kaitlin (Nick) Faulstich; great- grandchildren, Ethan and Taylor Lykins, and Henry Calvin; and three very special nieces and a very special nephew.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her devoted husband, and her sweet sister, Sarah Roush.

Joann's family would like to thank the staff of Keepsake Village for their care and compassion the last three and a half years.

Joann will be sadly missed, but remembered lovingly, by all who knew her.

In keeping with Joann's wishes, cremation is planned and a private celebration of her life will be held by the family at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, and the Alzheimer's Association.

It is with sadness that I read of Jo's passing. She was one of our P.E.O. sisters in Chapter CV and we have missed her vibrant smile and attitude for several years. I will share this with our chapter and send my loving condolences to her family.
