Terrence Carraway Obituary

Sergeant Terrence F. Carraway FLORENCE - Sergeant Terrence F. Carraway transitioned from this earthly realm to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in the line of duty. He was born in Florence, SC to the late Delores "Sabra" Carraway Onwuka. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. Terrence was an all- around athlete and a 1984 graduate of Mayo High School The Golden Bears!!! He LOVED football and was eternally devoted to his Oakland Raiders. Sgt. Carraway was a 30-year highly decorated veteran police officer with the Florence Police Department, earning many recognitions to include: "Police Officer of the Year, " "Hometown Hero," and the "Medal of Valor." He was a retired Air Force Reservist after 23 years of stellar service as a Security Journeyman with the 315th Security Forces Squadron, Charleston AFB. In 2002 he became the first African American airman from Charleston Air Force Reserve Command to be named "NCO of the Year World Wide," and he was selected as one of the Twelve Outstanding Airmen of 2002. He was a faithful member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Darlington, SC, were he served as a member of the Ushers Ministry, Male Choir, C.L. Bowens Choir and other ministries of the church especially working with the youth. Terrence devoted his life to developing long lasting relationships with children who loved and honored him like a father. If he ever befriended you, you surely had a friend for life. Brother Carraway did not limit the definition of family to a blood connection; for Terrence, brothers and sisters were connected by the heart. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: his devoted wife of 29 years, Allison Greene Carraway, his sons, Terrence Rashad Carraway(Allyson) of the home, and Tislam Larenzo Blathers of Queens, NY, Brothers: Antonio Blathers of Brooklyn, NY; Daniel Leverne Blathers of Florence, SC; and Jameele Scott of Atlanta, GA, a sister: Ngozi Lee Onwuka (Adrian) of Darlington, SC, a serogate brother, Lamais Muldrow of Darlington, SC, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention.
