Lucy Hines CAMDEN - A graveside service to celebrate the life of Lucy Kate Hines, 75, of Camden, SC, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017, in Elmwood Cemetery & Gardens. Dr. James I. St. John will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Thiel-Meyer Pet Adoption Center, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC 29020, the Kershaw County Library, Camden Branch, 1304 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020 or Kershaw Health Hospice, 124 Battleship Road, Camden, SC 29020. Ms. Hines died peacefully at home on Friday, March 3, 2017, after a stoic battle with cancer. She was born March 26, 1941, in Columbia, and was the daughter of the late James McMurray Hines, Sr. and Lucy Oliver Hines Brooks. Ms. Hines attended Columbia city schools and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. After graduation, Lucy moved to Camden where she enjoyed her lifelong passion for horses. She was a voracious reader and frequent patron of the Kershaw County Library, a member of the Camden Hunt, The Springdale Hall Club and Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Ms. Hines worked for the South Carolina Department of Transportation for many years until her retirement. Ms. Hines is survived by her brothers, James McMurray Hines, Jr. and his wife, Edith, Sewall Oliver Hines and his wife, Susie, all of Columbia; nieces, Edith Holler Hines of Columbia, Lucy Hines Shallenberger and her husband, Joel, of Atlanta, Anna Katherine Hines Burnie and her husband, Alan, of Raleigh; and nephew, John Oliver Hines of Columbia; great-nephews, James Oliver Shallenberger and Lucas Hines Shallenberger of Atlanta. The family would like to thank her caregivers, especially Dawn, Robin, Ziffy and also Linda & Dean for the loving care of her animals.
