Sharon Ott Obituary

Sharon Crothers Ott COLUMBIA - Sharon Crothers Ott, 66, of Columbia died Sunday, June 3, 2018. Born December 5, 1951, in Highland Park, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Charles Harley Crothers and Mary Alice Ford Crothers. Mrs. Ott was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and sister. Employed as a social worker at Dorn VA Hospital, she retired as Chief of Social Work. Among her many attributes were counseling all who needed advice and mentoring young social workers. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, flying, traveling, enjoying the great outdoors, and her dogs. Survivors include her spouse, Ricky Wayne Ott; daughter, Lindsey F. Ott; sisters, Patricia Rentz (Charlie), Marsha Raines (Randy), Ginger Hagen (Billy); brother, William Crothers (George); brother-in-law, Robert S. Ott (Fran); sister-in-law, Barbara O. Beach (Larry); mother-in-law, Barbara C. Ott; father-in-law, Bobby Gene Ott; and 12 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Hair; and brother-in-law, Johnny Hair. The service for Mrs. Ott will be held 1 o'clock, Wednesday, June 6th, at First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, with Dr. Derek W. H. Thomas and The Rev. Josh Squires officiating. A reception will follow in Jackson Hall at the church. Burial will be in First Presbyterian Churchyard. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212 or a memorial fund for the creation of Sharon's Garden at Clear Dot Charter School, 701 Gervais St., Suite 150-140, Columbia, SC. 29201. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Compassionate Care Hospice for their support during Sharon's illness. Memories and condolences may be shared at ShivesFuneralHome.com.
