Bradley Craven Obituary

Bradley S. Craven, 39, of Mount Cobb, died Monday at home.

Born Jan. 20, 1969, in Peckville, son of Jean Wittenbreden Craven O'Connell, Mount Cobb, and the late Carl Craven, he was a 1987 graduate of North Pocono High School and a 1996 graduate of Penn State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in education. He was employed as a faculty member in the Mid Valley School District, where he taught English. He was also adviser to the student council at Mid Valley High School.

Brad was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and anything to do with the outdoors. He coached junior league baseball in Dickson City for several years. Brad was the most charismatic man his family knew. You could not go from one end of Pennsylvania to the other without someone knowing his name. He had a passion for teaching and expressing the importance of being oneself. He was a gifted musician and loved the arts and photography. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

Also surviving are his stepfather, Edward J. O'Connell, Mount Cobb; two nieces, Brooke M. Craven, Moosic; and Carlie A. Craven, Moosic; a sister-in-law, Marcia A. Learn, Moosic; and an aunt, Henrietta Mittan, Melbourne, Fla.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth C. Craven, who died March 1.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 401 Church St., Moscow, with the Rev. Arthur W. Davis, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, as officiating clergy. Interment, Mount Cobb Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday, 4 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 111 S. Independence Mall, Suite 411, Philadelphia, 19106-2521, as Bradley received a kidney transplant from his brother, Kenneth.

My dear friend Brad,
You were always one of my favorite people in high school; needless to say this carried through to our professional lives at Mid Valley. I know that during your short time there, you touched many more lives than others that have been there FOREVER.
You were never content to simply accept the "status quo", and I know that this is the most important lesson that you ever imparted on your students. We will miss you always. May you rest in well-deserved peace, and God always bless your family for giving us your light.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Losing a child is the most difficult thing a parent can go through (I have been there myself). Mr. Craven had my daughter as a student and on student counsel at Mid Valley this year and she spoke of him often when she came home from school - she was vextremely upset by the news of his loss. Our prayers and sympathies are with you all.

The people that come into our lives, perhaps for a fleeting moment, leave their mark. Brad has left not only his mark, but his permanent imprint on our hearts. A soft, gentle nudge...an effervescent smile...always a good last word.
Never, ever, did a negative comment flow through his lips. He was one of those very blessed people that was always able to see the positive or humorous side in every situation and circumstance.
How very fortunate we have all been to be touched by his presence...whether for a moment, an hour or a year.

In his short life, he has left his mark on every individual who stumbled across his path.

In this sorrowful time, Brad would want us to remember all that...the good, the positive...the love that envelopes this world..if only our eyes are open wide enough to see.

The heavens have shared with us the most special of all angels...Brad Craven.
We have been blessed!

Thank you, Brad.
Farewell...
We love you and are going to miss you dearly.
You have moved on to higher ground.
Let us be guided by the example you set for us in your short visit here on earth.

To the grieving family and friends of Brad.

I know your hearts are broken;
There are no words that can be spoken.
But, I know when our loved ones die;
The healing starts when you cry.

The tears you shed will remain for years;
The happy memories will lessen your tears.
At times, you'll feel you just can't cope;
But, God's love will give you hope.

I know it's hard to understand why,
It's not easy when those we love die.
As our bodies to spirits are replaced.
Our love through the years cannot be erased.
Just remember, our spirit never dies;
Our love for each other helps strengthen our ties.

May you find comfort to know in your heart;
The love shared with Brad will never part.
As we each have our turn to be called above;
It's a comfort to know we still live through God's love.

With sincere sympathy, friendship and love.

A Tribute to Bradley Craven

(Born January 20, 1969 -- Died February 18, 2008)

Bradley Craven a man well known at Mid Valley for his wit and charm.
Respected teacher and a beloved friend to all; he wouldn’t do anyone harm.
As a human being he had a kind and gentle soul; it’s true;
Dedicated to the students and school he loved too.
Loved singing and telling jokes; I’ll remember his entertaining office visits;
Especially his boyish and sometimes devilish smile which melted my heart;
Yes, he made me feel welcomed; right from the start.

Craven is how he introduced himself to me;
Right away I knew he was a special man; you could see.
A big “teddy bear” who made you feel happy.
Very down to earth and he did his best daily.
Extraordinary, a fun loving country man;
Not to mention a great hunter and fisherman.

Although, I’ve only known him a short time;
I have some special memories which are sublime.
He was my shuffle board partner at the Christmas party;
We had so many laughs and we played real hearty.
I want to thank you “Craven” for being my friend;
I’ll remember you until my life on earth comes to an end.
You have a “heart of gold” which I also admired;
That’s a special gift which not everyone has aspired.
I may not see you for awhile;
I will miss you, there’s no denial.
But, I have faith that I will see you again;
Until then…peace be with you…my dear friend.

Love ya,
Sue Baigis

Craven, a well respected man who made a difference among his students. He surely engraved his love and laughter in each of us. A devoted individual who enjoyed what he did for a living— teaching. He was not just a teacher to his students, but a friend and for some even a father figure—the way I viewed him. He surely made a difference in my life with his advice; therefore, he will be greatly missed.

Here’s a little poem for you Craven—and thank you so much in helping me find myself in my writings as well as to appreciate and gain a better understanding of poetry the way you taught me during Poetry Out Loud. Miss and love you, Craven.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
