Ann Marie Theresa Vadella Peters, 71, of Carbondale, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, of glioblastoma. She was married to Alan Peters in 1988.
Born in Carbondale on Oct. 4, 1949, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Patrick E. and Arlene A. Swegel Vadella.
She is survived by her three children, Lonnie Hunter and wife, Judy; Kim Hunter and Jamie Hunter, all of Carbondale; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; six brothers and four sisters, Eugene Vadella, of Carbondale; Judith Voss, of Florida; Mary Lou Tomsky, of Carbondale; Robert Vadella, of State College; Carolyn Mrakovich, of Carbondale; Thomas Vadella, of Carbondale; Joseph Vadella, of Carbondale; Michael Vadella, of Browndale; Linda Iliff, of Carbondale; and James Vadella, of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Patrick K. Vadella; and a sister, Darlene Vadella Bouch.
Ann Marie was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish, receiving all her Sacraments there. She attended the Woodrow Wilson Grammar School, St. Rose Elementary Catholic School and Benjamin Franklin High School. Ann Marie received her GED in 1971, then attained certificates of nursing. She was employed by the Carbondale Nursing Home for 12 years as the assistant social director. So highly thought of by the residents for her loyalty to them, she was known as "Annie the Angel."
Ann Marie will be remembered by her family as a warm but strong, loving and generous person and the first to volunteer when help was needed. She was a friend to all.
After she became ill, she was visited by all of her family, friends, and by the sons and daughters of all her friends. They respectfully called her Mom as they never forgot all she had done to make them comfortable and part of her family. Ann Marie had many talents: cooking, sketching and jewelry making, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family. She also will be remembered for her great big grandmother's heart.
She had the ability to make you feel welcome in her home, always sharing what she had, and her generosity extended not only to family, but to friends, and to the families of her friends. To have known her was to have had your life enriched. Always in love with "her Al," who was the love of her life. They had been married for 32 years.
Friends are invited to attend a walk through viewing on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 89 Farview St., Carbondale. Those attending are kindly asked to wear a mask. Due to pandemic health restrictions, all services following the viewing which will include a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and Interment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp., will be private for family.
