Mary Bliven Obituary
She was born in Westerly, the daughter of the late James A. Pucci Jr. and Frances M. (Ricci) Pucci. She was the wife of Samuel A. Bliven Jr.
Mary, a registered electrologist, owned her own business, The Electrolysis Center. While raising three children, she volunteered with the Westerly National Little League and briefly taught CCD with her parish. Prior to these activities she worked at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London as a phlebotomist. An animal advocate, Mary would donate pet supplies and money to our local animal shelter yearly at Christmas time. She also crocheted over 100 hats for women who had lost their hair while in chemotherapy which she donated to Women and Infants Hospital and grew her own hair to donate to Locks of Love. She was also a regular donor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
In addition to her husband and her mother, Mary Bliven is survived by her children, Amanda, Andrea and Aaron Bliven, her brother, James G. Pucci, his wife, Gina and their children, Tyler and Ariana Pucci and her sister, Lauren M. Pucci along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours are omitted. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Church on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St. Westerly, The Westerly Animal Shelter, 33 Larry Hirsch Lane Westerly, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.

I just found out about Mary. Ive been thinking about her so much . We went to Fisher College in Boston in the 70s and would always talk on the phone and send Christmas cards to each other. I just heard of Mary's passing yesterday. I was both shocked and saddened...We knew each other for many years starting in Miss Pendleton's art class and then being neighbors on Anderson Court. My heart goes out to Sam and the kids, Jimmy and family, her Mom and all those who loved her.

I'm sorry for your loss. I met Mrs. Bliven through her daughter Amanda, whom I went to Uconn with. After graduating college every time I would visit Amanda, Mrs. Bliven would cook me some type of meal, mainly her stuffed peppers. A small gesture but such a huge deal that she would think of me. After reading the things she did for her community, it is evident that giving and thoughtful and compassion are adjectives that will always be part of her legacy. Thank you Mrs. Bliven for feeding my stomach and my soul.
