A memorial service for Phyllis J. Fitzhenry, 78, of Coos Bay, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Eagles Lodge, 568 S. Second St., in Coos Bay. Cremation was at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematory in Coos Bay.

Phyllis was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Kansas, the daughter of Van A. and Lalah (Bartles) Roush. She died March 28, 2006.

Phyllis Jeanne grew up in Myrtle Point and graduated from high school there. She married Alvin "Scoop" King of Powers and worked for many years for GTE first as an operator, then in sales and management before she retired. She even worked a season cooking at Yellowstone National Park when she was 75 years old. She was a longtime active member of the Eagles Lodge in Coos Bay, and served in many auxiliary offices. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's organization, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her brother, Richard Roush and wife, Virginia; aunt, Laura Lee Blenz; cousin, Barbara Anderson; nephews, Gary Roush and wife, Carol, Greg Roush and wife, Gina, and Danny Roush and wife, Margot; nieces, Linda McGrew, Barbara Jean Williams and husband, Rick, and Denice Miller and husband, Paul; best friend, Mary Farley; stepchildren, Ellen, Linda, James, Janice and David Fitzhenry; numerous stepgrandchildren; and many relatives and friends in the Coos County area who will miss her great sense of humor.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Scoop King and Jim Fitzhenry; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Barbara Roush; and companion, Dan Kelly.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Special Olympics, P.O. Box 3014, Coos Bay, OR 97420.

Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 267-3131.
