Jerry E. Chess

Chess Jerry E. Chess, DDS, MSe, age 79, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Kobacker House. Jerry was born May 12, 1934 in Ravenna, Ohio, son of the late Wayne and Dorothy (Doutt) Chess and grew up in Warren, Ohio. He was an Orthodontist and had his practice of 48 years on West Broad St. retiring in 2012. Jerry is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judith (Clark); and his sons, Frederick J. "Fritz" (Anne Christine Braddock) of Seattle, WA and Matthew R. Chess of Clintonville; brother, Wayne and (Beverly) Chess of Norman, OK; step children, Amy Wellington of Columbus and Jeffrey (Leslie) Wellington of Loveland, OH; step-grandchildren, Jacob W. and Andrew C. Wellington; many nieces and nephews. He was a 1959 graduate of The Ohio State University School of Dentistry and received his Masters of Science in Orthodontics in 1964. Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who dedicated his life to supporting and talking care of his family while living life to the fullest. Jerry was a member of Scioto Country Club where he was an avid golfer. Flying, skiing, boating, hunting with his dogs and fishing were amongst his many pursuits. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Among his professional memberships were the American Association of Orthodontists, Columbus Dental Society and the American Dental Association. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Scioto Country Club, 2196 Riverside Drive, Columbus, OH 43221. Welcoming hours will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a service to begin at 5 p.m. and a reception immediately following the service. Contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to Arthur G.
