Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories that I leave
when life is done.

I´m so sorry for this family´s loss. As the mother of two sons who both have served in the NG, and mother in law of a UPS driver, I can only imagine the pain of having any of their lives cut so short. Sending my prayers for Garrett´s soul, and for God´s peace to this family, until you meet again.

I'm sorry to lose one of our Brothers from the "'Nai." Sgt Benson had the admirable calm, cool demeaner that is always best in a soldier. I remember the nights we had off from our outposts in South Camp when we all let loose: Sgt. Benson was always in the middle of it having a ball! He will be in our memories, hearts and always our Bro!

Garrett My Beloved Son,
There are not words that can be said that can express my deep sorrow and loss. You have always been such a joy in my life. When I think of what I will be missing in your life, such as your marriage and father to my grandchildren, it totally breaks my heart. No dad should ever have to go through what I have experienced since your departure from this earth. I do find comfort in God and all the wonderful things that have been said about you by so many. I know that someday we will be together again. I will cherish the day sweet boy. I will love you forever.

Garrett you were a role model for so many people but you showed me how to live life to its fullest and more importantly how to love. Our bond can never be broken and as time passes memories will not fade. You have left the most tremendous impact upon my life and with the loss of you, the emptiness is nearly unbearable. You were my best friend and the love of my life. I hope that you are in a happy place and I will see you again someday. I love and miss you G.

I met Garrett way back in junior high and he is somebody one can never forget. His laugh, smile and humor always stick out in my mind. Whenever I ran into him, he always was smiling and ready with a kind word. Although I did not get to know him as well as I wish I could have, he will truely be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

i had the honnor of knowing garrett for a few yrs both as a enlisted serviceman then as a NCO.
he served with me on a remote site on our last mission, and i thought highly of him, and his ability to lead his team, i also told my senor nco,s he (garrett) should be considered for faster advancement.
i also thought of him a a jolly BIG man
but not one i,d want to upset.
he had seperated from our unit only a short few months ago.
i even caught the news about the event. but never connected it.
till the next drill weekend, and i was totally shocked to learn it was Garrett
my heart thoughts and prayers to all your family and friends Garrett.
i know i,ll miss you

I knew Garrett as "Jethro" which was the nick name given to him by the staff at our office when he was our UPS driver. He would stomp up the stairs and we always knew it was him ... the stairs still squeak where he used to stomp the hardest. He was a great guy and I wish the best for those he's left behind.

Garrett...I will never forget your goofy laugh and how we would sit around and sing just to drive Rachel crazy...Or how about the nights you would record things on the dvr just to make us laugh at all the idiots who made mistakes on tv. You were more to me than just a friend you were someone who made my best friend happy and for that I thank you...She loved you sooo much. She told me the following sunday that she was ready to spend the rest of her life with you. Even though it made me sick to think that someone could be that happy (lol)...I was glad it was you. I will miss you sooo much...who else is going to drive me crazy with their huge jugular...you know what I mean. I am so sorry and so sad...but don't worry my friend we will see each other again...love you g! To anyone who knew Garret...You were so lucky! Forever in my heart...

Garrett was a very polite and pleasant young man...a gentle giant from what I observed as I helped him find a home earlier this year to live in. When I heard the news about his passing, I was emotionally devastated. My heartfelt prayers go out to his family, to Rachel and his friends and co-workers at UPS and in the National Guard. To all of Garrett's family and friends, We were so saddened to hear of Garrett's death and our thoughts and prayers go out to you. I have lived up the street from Garrett for many years and first met Garrett when I hired him to do yard work for me. I will always remember one day when I looked out and instead of mowing my lawn Garrett was playing with my big dog, and I smiled and thought how great that was....and it was a lesson to me not to let the work of life get in our way but we need to play and enjoy the day more. May your love for Garrett and the great memories you have of him bring you comfort.
