I worked with Herb on several projects for the Agency of Transportation including the reconstruction of Route 7 in Rutland nearly 20 years ago. We always had a special connection as my dad, Lyle Peterson, and Herb graduated from Norwich University along with Art Goss and several others from the Agency. He was a great guy and will be missed by those of us who knew him at AOT.

I first met Herb when I was the Fitness Director at Wedgewood and we hit it off immediately.Gosh, he loved talking sports as much as I do. Whenever I ran into him as the years went on it was always my privilege and pleasure to see him and chat for awhile. My best to the family.

I knew Herb since 1958 when he was building VT 105 over the mountain from Stevens Mills to Jay. This allowed easterly traffic to stay in the USA instead of going into Canada. A number of interstate projects followed on I-89 and I-91.
Many fond memories. I remember him saying, Mrs. Walker's little boy Herbie!"

Some of my fondest memories as a child are with my uncle Herb. Riding on the back roads with our bottles of pepsi saying go faster Uncle Herb faster and he would laugh. He was the best Uncle a girl could ever ask for!!! He will be very missed. All my love goes to Uncle Herb and his family Love Always, Kelley Soland

"Herbicide" leaves a somber void in his many friends that will never be replaced by enough chuckles...especially by Herb's unique chuckle at anything that accidentally tickled his fancy.
