John Socash Obituary

John A. (Jack) Socash of Exeter passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

He was born in Towanda on July 15, 1934, son of the late John and Anna Mae Klem Sokash. He graduated from Exeter High School in 1954.

Jack was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, St. Barbara Parish, Exeter, where he served as president of the Holy Name Society of the church in 1984.

He was employed as a supervisor by Lasko Metal Products, Hughestown, and Standard Coated Products. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Hulls American, Mountain Top. For the past 14 years, he was a beloved employee of Howell-Lussi Funeral Home.

He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1952 to 1960 as a radioman second class.

Jack was a and avid golfer and was a past member of Emanon Country Club. He was a member of the Wednesday Night Bowling League at Elko's, Dupont. Jack enjoyed his visits to Seneca Lakes, N.Y., with his family, where he would ride his Wave Runner with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Marie Sokach.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Irene Mesaris; daughters, Donna Smith and her husband, Lauren, Shavertown; Nancy Moran and her husband, Ben, Schnecksville; and Susan Shemanski and her husband, Mark, West Wyoming; brother, Stephen Sokash and his wife, Judy, West Pittston; sister, Mary Ann Smutko, North Carolina; grandchildren, Dan and Kate Smith, Jackie and Benjamin Moran, Emily and Sarah Shemanski, Stacy Arrants and her husband, Matt, and Brian Smith and his wife, Susan; several nieces and nephews; and faithful canine companion, Chuck.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, St. Barbara Parish, Exeter. The Rev. Paul McDonnell will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carveton.

Memorial donations may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
