Laura Versluis Obituary

Laura J. Versluis
50, of Westerville, formerly of Dennison, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Byron Center, Mich., following a brief battle with brain cancer. Born May 10, 1963 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, she was a daughter of Gerald E. and Marilyn J. (McCarroll) Wilson of Dennison. Laura will be deeply missed by her family which, in addition to her parents, includes her beloved husband of 28 years, Martin Versluis; their son, Gary Versluis of Westerville; a brother, Steven Wilson and his wife, Linda, of Marietta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins, including Connie Stenger and Lynn Tucker to whom she was especially close. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, E. F. and Mary McCarroll, and her paternal grandparents, James and Margaret Wilson. A 1981 graduate of Swan Valley High School in Saginaw, Mich., and a 1984 graduate of Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., Laura had most recently been employed by Nationwide Children's Hospital in Westerville. Previously, she was a partner with her husband in the operation of Martin's Photography in Dennison for many years. She was Methodist by faith and attended Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church while living in the area. Laura was loved by all who knew her, and she will be remembered for her kind and outgoing spirit.
A memorial service and celebration of her life, officiated by the Rev. John W. Clark, will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, in Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at a later date in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
