Robert E. VanSteinburg 1927 - 2017
ILION - Robert E. VanSteinburg, 90, passed away, peacefully, on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Alpine Nursing Home in Little Falls.
Bob was born on July 19, 1927, in Ilion, NY, the son of the late Clayton and Marjorie (Coleman) VanSteinburg. He was a 1946 graduate of Ilion High School and holds BFA degrees in Painting-Illustration and Art Education from Syracuse University. Bob worked, for many years, as an art teacher for Mohawk Central School and was also well known in the area as a Commercial Artist and Illustrator. Prior to teaching, he was employed with GE, American Emblem and was member of the Army National Guard.
"Uncle Bob", as he was known to many around the Mohawk Valley, had a lifelong passion creating his art work. Etched upon his easel were his words of inspiration: Focus, Follow-through and Faith. Many of his paintings hang in local homes and throughout the country. His work was commissioned by several national greeting card and publishing companies. He was a member of the Central New York Watercolor Society. He always enjoyed spending time with his sister, brother-in-law and his nieces and nephews.
Bob is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Daly, of Ilion; five nieces and nephews, Timothy Daly and Scott Vaughan, of Ilion, Leigh and Brian Lytwynec, of Sparta, NJ, Kathleen and John Reese, of Ilion, Mary and James Salamone, of Liverpool, NY, and Erin and Kurt Burger, of Ilion; eleven great-nieces and nephews, Andrew and Jill Lytwynec, Beth Lytwynec, Christine Lytwynec and Steve Eckenrode, Jacqueline Reese, Daniel Reese, Stephen Salamone, Sarah Salamone, Emily Salamone, James Salamone, Lauren Burger and Ryan Burger; and two great-great-nephews, Gabriel and Rowan Lytwynec.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 18, at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. Father Paul Catena will officiate and interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion. Friends may call on Monday, December 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego Street, Ilion, NY.
