What can one say about a true Renaissance Man? Matthew was interested in everything and everyday was a journey to new knowledge. And, all of us were the beneficiaries of his insatiable appetite for knowledge.
We are all the poorer for his passing.

I will always remember Mathews kindness when we did a joint presentation representing The Albany Institute of History & Art, very early in my professional career. Mathew had always been a revered business leader & incredible philanthropist in our community. Sincerest condolences to the entire Bender family.

There will never be another Matthew Bender. Matthew was unique in every amazing, wonderful and genuine way possible for a human to soar. There wasnt a day that Matthew wasnt spending his time helping someone or supporting a valuable cause or organization. We are all the better for knowing this leader, husband, father, friend. Rest In Peace dear Matthew. Thank you for sharing your productive and compassionate journey throughout your life.

I am sorry for the loss to his family. Matthew was first and foremost a great guy. I remember a wonderful moment from many years ago, where I was at a fundraiser for an arts organization at Matt and Pheobe's house in Loudenville. The house was full of excellent, important art works. Matt and Phoebe were serious collectors. But what intrigued me were some funky, fanciful clay creatures on a table near the middle of the house. I asked Matt about them, and found out that they had been made by his daughter. He was as proud of them as he was the more major works hanging on the walls. I thought it was a wonderful comment on the man, that with a string of huge business successes behind him he still found delight in strikingly fanciful clay creatures made by one of his children. He will be missed.
